Conference 19 May - How to finance biodiversity?
The Federal Council for Sustainable Development will organize a conference on financing biodiversity on Tuesday 19 May in Brussels, with the title ‘A credit to nature: a matter of interest’.
Biodiversity loss is accelerating, and at the same time, Belgium and the European Union are implementing nature restoration objectives. This event will look at the mobilization of private and public investments for ecosystem restoration, including certification systems and nature credits.
The conference will bring together researchers, policy experts, financial actors and practitioners. The programme includes :
- a keynote on the need for biodiversity financing in Belgium,
- expert’s views on the role, limits and feasibility of nature credits,
- lessons learned and concrete plans for nature credits in UK, France and the Netherlands,
- and a panel discussion of the potential use case of a market of biodiversity credits, with financial experts and administration representatives.
During lunchtime, there will be a ‘market place’, that offers the opportunity for project leaders to present concrete initiatives in the field of nature restoration and biodiversity conservation. The objective is to facilitate exchanges between project developers and potential financial partners. Furthermore, the Shift, IMS Luxembourg and WWF will be presenting initiatives aimed at putting biodiversity on the corporate agenda of companies.
The conference will be held in English (no translation) from 9hrs. to 17 hrs. in Pacheco Centre, Boulevard Pacheco 13, 1000 Brussels.
The program and inscription link can be found on the conference page on the website of the Federal Council for Sustainable Development. Minor changes to the program may still occur.
