Belgium will host the 2nd edition of the North Sea Summit
At the invitation of Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Minister of Energy Tinne Van der Straeten, the Heads of State and government and the Energy Ministers of Denmark, France, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom will meet in Ostend on 24 April for the second North Sea Summit, as well as the President of the European Commission and the Energy Commissioner. Ambition: to harness the full energy and industrial potential of the North Sea and make it the largest power house of Europe.
The 2nd North Sea Summit in Ostend follows the first North Sea Summit which was held in May 2022 in Esbjerg, Denmark. Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands agreed to coordinate their actions to fight against the dependence on gas and fossils fuel.
This first edition of the North Sea Summit resulted in a declaration formalising the goal of the four countries to quadruple their combined offshore power generation capacity to at least 150 GW by 2050.
In Ostend, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands will be joined by France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway and the United Kingdom. The goal of the second North Sea Summit is to collective ambition of the countries of the North Sea (including the Celtic Sea, Irish Sea) to harness the full energy and industrial potential of the North Sea and make it the largest power house of Europe by 2050.
The second North Sea Summit will take place on April 24th in the heart of the Port of Ostend. The meeting will result in further joint declarations to turn ambition into reality. A delegation of some 100 business leaders and stakeholders from the energy sector and the nine participating countries is also invited to participate in the discussions.
